Painting Stuffed Fables: Dark Hearts

In Stuffed Fables your Stuffies will come across many a nightmarish toy and in this session we're going to be looking at the heartless sock bunnies, Dark Hearts. As these models are largely made from discarded socks I wanted to add a lot of variety so each has a slightly different paint scheme but I'm going to walk you step by step through how I painted the leader.

Painting Stuffed Fables: Crawlies

Stuffed Fables is a fantasy adventure game where players take on the roles of stuffed toys defending a young girl from the nightmare creations of Crepitus. In this series of articles I will be showing you how I painted the various models in the set.

Desert Basing

Here's a quick tutorial on how I put together my desert bases for the recent Tatooine models from Jabba's Realm.

Painting Distressed Wood

So, I wanted to create a distressed, used feel to my Scrapyard gates. Here’s the technique I used…

Painting Bone

Several people requested a bone tutorial in the summer when I posted my Otherworld Skeletons, so 8 months later I have finally obliged

Painting Giant Bugs

Regular followers of this blog may remember that I have done a previous tutorial on painting the Carcass Scavenger from Otherworld, but I thought that some people may be interested in learning a little about this paint job (and conversion ) specifically, so here it is.

Painting Fur (Drybrushing)

This will be my second tutorial on Fur, but this time with a difference. My first tutorial focused on creating a fur effect by painting individual stands of hair. However, that is a long process, usually pretty rewarding, but I thought I’d present a different option. Drybrushing is a technique I have often shied away from, primarily because it is difficult to disguise the technique in the end result. However, recently I’ve been experimenting, so let me present my tips for painting boar fur.

Painting Red

So, this week I thought I’d offer a quick formula for a good looking red. I have issues with Red and Blue, neither ever comes out as nicely as I’d like but these cultist models are the best reds I’ve done to date. The key really is layers so don’t worry too much about matching mine colour for colour.

Painting Zombie Flesh & Gore

My method for painting zombies is incredibly simple. I started with a basecoat of Dheneb Stone which is then washed with Devlan mud. This allows me to see all the detail on the model as well as provide some nice areas of shade for later washes.

Painting Fur (Brushstrokes)

As I recently adapted my method of painting wolves I thought I’d share the new recipe.

Painting Washes and Glazes

Let me explain what I mean by the title. Sometimes you have models that are essentially the same colour all over, which can present an interesting problem for a painter as you need to create large areas of colour that don’t look flat. In this tutorial I will be using this Jabberwocky miniature to show how you can use washes to create a paintjob that looks visually interesting and naturalistic using a very limited colour palette.
