Delving Deeper into Descent

Updated: Nov 24, 2020

At the start of the year I set myself some goals, one of which was to finish the outstanding boxed expansions for Descent Journeys in the Dark 2nd Edition. To complete this I just need to do three boxes, Shadows of Nerekhall, Mists of Bilehall and The Chains That Rust.

I have now finished all three, however the models in Shadows of Nerekhall are so bad that it's simply not worth taking pictures. The Ynfernal Hulks (shown previously) are brilliant, the Ironbound and two of the heroes are okay, the rats are sub par and the changlings are some of the worst models I've ever painted, while the last two heroes are just a collection of misshapen lumps and mould lines. Descent's quality has never been superb but this expansion was a huge disappointment.

However Mists of Bilehall was a nice enough return to form. In this expansion we have lots of undead creatures, including Reanimates, Broodwalkers and the Bone Horrors.

The Chains That Rust is also a monster only expansion that features more undead types, including the Dispossessed, the Shambling Colossus and the Marrow Priests.

For more images and close ups on the minis you can check out the Descent Gallery page here. Overall these models proved to be fun, quick and easy to paint and I'm rather pleased with the end result. But, we're not done just yet with #Descent, I have a monster and hero pack to paint along with most of the Lieutenant packs so stay tuned for that, but here's a quick sneak peak at the Crusade of the Forgotten Golems!

Until next time, have fun painting...

The Duke

The Duke has just 28 Descent minis left to paint... the temptation to buy more is almost irresistible!
